Scientific studies

A selection of studies, with key findings and publications available to download.

Study: longevity of dental implants

Matrix metalloproteinase-8 is an enzyme that breaks down collagen fibres. In dentistry, salivary aMMP-8 levels are therefore frequently measured as part of periodontal treatment. Periodontitis, and aMMP-8 in this context, have also been linked to heart attacks.

This study focused on the effects of micronutrient therapy on the connective tissues supporting the teeth. Participants had dental implants and started individualised micronutrient therapy after a micronutrient analysis.

The study title, translated from German, is: Effects of individualised micronutrient intake on the body’s regulatory systems, with particular reference to aMMP-8 technology as evidence-based predictive diagnostics for the sustainability and longevity of dental implants and for bioenergetic parameters.

Conclusion

The study reported that individualised micronutrient intake reduced inflammation, supported immune function and prevented peri-implantitis in 50% of participants with elevated aMMP-8 levels.

Why SALUTO carries out intracellular blood analyses

In its own studies, SALUTO measured serum and intraerythrocyte blood levels in 508 participants. Serum levels were almost always within the reference range, whereas intraerythrocyte levels — the levels inside red blood cells — showed substantial deficiencies.

Thyroid study

Almost 800 elite athletes were examined in this study. The effects of thyroid hormones on mental, psychological and physical performance were assessed using parameters of the autonomic nervous system. The evidence-based retrospective findings were published in Sportärztezeitung 02/2018.

Conclusion

Only 17% of the elite athletes examined were within the study’s desired reference range of 1.6 to 2.2 μIU/ml, associated in the study with optimal trainability.

Magnesium study

Low heart rate variability (HRV) can indicate stress. Long-term HRV measurements were used to investigate whether magnesium intake reduces stress. The findings were published in MMW – Fortschritte der Medizin in 2016.

Metabolic dysfunction: study of pyridinium cross-links

Fatigue, marked fluctuations in performance and non-contact injuries are becoming more common in elite sport. Such overload reactions involve strain on the body’s structural proteins. Pyridinium cross-links can help identify these changes in energy metabolism at an early stage and inform appropriate interventions.

The article presents evidence-based retrospective studies of marathon runners and professional footballers. The findings were published in Sportärztezeitung 04/2016.

Randomised, double-blind clinical study: nutrition and exercise

The clinical study was initiated by Prof. Dr. Elmar Wienecke and conducted with IFAT, the Institute for Applied Telemedicine at the Heart and Diabetes Centre North Rhine-Westphalia, alongside other physicians, scientists and nutrition specialists.

This placebo-controlled, randomised, double-blind study investigated whether supplementation with minerals, trace elements and vitamins is necessary alongside exercise and a healthy diet, and how targeted intake affects cellular stores and endurance performance in healthy adult women.

A preliminary assessment recorded the dietary habits of all participants. Only women whose diets met the German Nutrition Society’s criteria for a balanced diet were included. The 100 participants were randomly allocated to an active-treatment group and a placebo group of 50 women each. For four months, they took a daily combination of commercially available vitamins, minerals and trace elements, or a placebo, and exercised for 40 minutes three times a week at an individually determined intensity based on sports medicine assessments.

Changes in cellular vitamin B1 and B9 concentrations after four months of cardiovascular exercise (N = 100 women). B1 was not supplemented; folic acid (B9) was supplemented.
Changes in cellular and serum magnesium concentrations after four months of cardiovascular exercise. While cellular concentrations fell, serum levels increased significantly.

Conclusion

The study concluded that, despite a balanced diet, micronutrient requirements were not met during moderate endurance training and cellular stores fell substantially. It reported a need for targeted micronutrient supplementation during exercise and highlighted the role of specialised intracellular blood tests in assessing micronutrient status.

Performance improvements and injury prevention

Individualised, targeted supplementation using a personal micronutrient formulation was associated with replenishment of cellular nutrient concentrations and a 30% improvement in performance in the 60 professional athletes examined.

In a further group of 64 competitive athletes who received no supplementation, marked deficiencies and no substantial performance improvements were found after four months, alongside interruptions to training due to infections.

Changes in cellular micronutrient concentrations in professional athletes (n = 124) after four months, and injury risk in competitive athletes with and without individually dosed micronutrients and amino acids.

Conclusion

Further investigations indicate a direct relationship between intensive exercise, degeneration of tissues with a slow metabolism such as ligaments, tendons and cartilage, and susceptibility to injury. The research reports fewer injury-related absences among athletes receiving a targeted nutrient formulation based on cellular analysis.
